Cacao with Spirit

It truly takes a village to care for the cacao as a baby as she grows - as you drink her you can feel the energy from the soil on q’eqchi forests to the hands of her harvest and charged gestational period through fermentation, birthed in the warmth of the drying period, and transformed by the fire and laughter around the comal to her destiny as cacao há - drinking cacao.

We began to register how the energies of the sacred 260 day Cholq'iq mayan calendar visited the cacao during her processing. The cacao is cared for as a living being. To us it what a synchronistic sign that cacao, as many other goods, are developed with the energy of the life that infuses them, as human hands and hearts.

100% Territory Q'eqchi - Processed by Hand - Toasted over Comal

A Model of Community  Abundance

  1. Purchases directly in wet cacao with juice from the families at a fair price

  2. Collectively produce from fermentation to drying within the Center

  3. Toasting over comal (clay dish over open fire) and peeling by hands of the q’eqchi women, infusing the family economy not just during purchase of cacao, but throughout the year.

  4. Grinding cacao, molding and packaging done locally by q’eqchi women

Maintaining 100% production within the same q’eqchi farmer families that harvest the cacao on their own land in Lanquin, Guatemala.

We have the potential to replicate this model in any agricultural community willing to work collectively.

260 & cacao

cholq'iq.jpg

As humans, if we want to syncronize ourselves to the rythyms of nature and the universe, we need to revise the way we keep track of time, the calendar.

260 days is the cycle of the sacred mayan calendar Cholq'iq. It is beautifully based off the gestational creation period of a human. It moves in a spiral rotation of

13 numbers = 13 joints in our bodies

20 nahuales = 20 fingers and toes

What could be more beautiful to create our lives, than to follow a calendar based on the gestational period as a human.

Through our own curiosity, while observing the movements of the days of calendar, while we were in the processing of cacao. We noticed how each batch of fermentation and drying completed a full cycle of 20 days, passing all of the energies, and how it became a beautiful frequency of numbers.

Absolutely Ix Kakaw (the Spirit of Cacao) connects with all of the different movements, but how does it affect her? How does it enhance our connection when we connect with her? That is for each one of us to find out...

Every day is a part of this 260 day cycle. Our own nahual energy is calculated by the day we were born.

Cacao Offerings with Energies

Cacao as she spoke to us was in syncronicities of numbers and frecuencies. While this may not sing to everyone, we invite you to open and allow the cacao to sing to you however she may.

All cacao blocks are chosen to be 400g blocks only. 400 represents infinity and abundance in the mayan cultures. We wish that sinking into the frequencies of the cacao with your heart that you can create abundance of light in your life and harmony with nature.

The dates that are represented in the different batches of cacao are recorded during her processing, and they represent:

CONCEPTION (the day the pods are opened)
BIRTH (the day she finished fermentation)
DESTINY (the day she was transformed into chocolate over comal)

We start by asking, the most common greeting here in the q'eqchi territory of Lanquin, Guatemala. We feel that the language gives you an opening to the culture and way of life.

Ma sa laa ch'ool? How is your heart?

Cacao & Balam

Theobroma Bicolor - Pataxte, Balam, Macombo

The Wild Jaguar cousin of cacao, in the mayan culture called Balam - because it is a wild variety and its skin resembles the jaguar (balam both the name of jaguar and anything wild referred in the Classical Maya period).

This special, limited supply block of Cacao & Balam is one of our favorite recipes, close to what was used in the mayan temples, as it is a balance of feminine and masculine energies. Balam provides a delicious nutty flavor and grounding to the cacao's heart expansion.

Frequency of Nature

The numbers 532 are the fibonnaci sequence that builds nature.

Toj is the offering we make in gratitude.

Ajpu is the father sun and power.

Q'anil are the seeds we plant.

Tz'i is the guardian that protects and grounds it in together.

This will help you spiral inward towards yourself while keeping you connected to Mother Earth.

Divine Feminine Masculine

The combination of Cacao & Balam is already a balance of duality. These 3 energies of cacao are very feminine essence - emotions, feminine, life force, cacao and the mother earth herself - symbolized by Imox, I'x & Kan.

Now we bring in Balam with the energy of Justice and balance.. what could be more divine?!
